Pump it Up NX Absolute (or NXA for short) is the 21st arcade game release in the Pump It Up series. It was released worldwide between December 2008 and January 2009 at various times in different locations as the game received numerous patches in earlier builds. PumBi V2, the program designed to manage NX Absolute, was released on December 26, 2008.

NXA, like NX2 was for NX, is an expansion of the NX line with major differences. There are 26 "New Tunes" added for this mix, as well as 17 Remixes, 17 Full Versions, and four hidden songs, released several months later as part of a promotion. Three additional new songs to international releases can be found in Easy Station and WorldMax. A new song, "Trato De No Trabarme" appears exclusively as a hidden Full Song. "Tell Me" by the Wonder Girls makes its debut in international (non-Korean) versions for the first time, bringing the total of new songs to 34, not counting Remixes.

The differences in the song list between NX Absolute and NX2 are significant; many older songs, particularly from Pump It Up Zero and Pump It Up NX have been removed. However, in addition to the new songs in NX Absolute, a significant amount of older BanYa tracks from the last decade make returning cameo appearances in the WorldMax mission mode. Some non-BanYa songs, such as "So" and "Circus Magic", are now WorldMax exclusives.

NXA continues the WorldMax mission mode from NX2 by doubling the amount of available missions and lands. A fully completed 100% USB from NX2 is equivalent to 42.6% WorldMax. While this appears to be significantly more than double of the 333 missions in NX2, one must take note that the several dozen removed songs from NX2 were replaced with often similar missions with new songs. A new techno remix of Taiji Boys' "My Fantasy", whose original version was featured in Perfect Collection, is exclusive to this mode. Three other new remixes are also WorldMax exclusives.

The WorldMax map has expanded significantly. Other than the old worlds from NX2, NXA features several new land areas such as Pandonus and Arowahi, seven mini-islands called WestPalZ where the player must clear all the missions in the island in order after arriving via a portal, and a brand new map where the player travels to space and uses wormholes to travel between space areas. Players can use the PumBi program to do special things in WorldMax such as reveal "hidden line" paths to portals, add additional time to their clock when navigating in WorldMax, and alter the chances involved with collecting items. Players can also spend mileage to break barricades, allowing players who are stuck to continue navigating around the world without having to first clear difficult boss missions.

New to this version is "Brain Shower" mode, where the player must not only step in time with the arrows, but must also do mental exercises involving mathematics, observation, and memory. The questions asked by the game during songs must be answered correctly to achieve a high grade upon the completion of the song. Songs in this mode are rated on a level scale between 1 and 10 and are organized by the three types of mental exercises. This mode allows two players to play a full set of three songs with just one credit.

Returning to NX Absolute is "Easy Station", first featured in Pump It Up Zero. Unlike NX2's Training Station, this station supports two players. It has a significantly larger amount of songs than in Zero and features a level scale from 1 to 9. It features two exclusive songs (previously from the Chinese version of NX2). The steps in this mode become easier or harder depending on how well the player hits the steps, thus making the mode very beginner-friendly.
